CSTO security council secretaries support political efforts that preserve Syria’s sovereignty

MOSCOW, (ST)_ The Member States  of the Collective Security Treaty Organization have stressed their support for political efforts being exerted to resolve the crisis in Syria based upon respecting its sovereignty and safety of its territories.

The Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization said after a meeting held today via videoconferencing that they support international efforts, mainly that come within Astana talks on Syria to guarantee stability and safety in this country basing upon respecting its sovereignty and safety of its territories.

They referred to the efforts being exerted by Russia to help Syria to confront terrorism, expressing concern over the use of terrorists, who returned from the Middle East, as mercenaries in armed conflicts.

The committee passed a statement on intensifying cooperation and coordinated action to counteract international terrorism and the spread of terrorist and extremist ideology. It also approved several documents on the development and improvement of the legal framework, military-economic and military cooperation between the CSTO member states.
