Head of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati said on Sunday that Syria is not to be isolated under any circumstances and the only way to resolve the country’s crisis is to respect public demands and maintain the country’s territorial integrity.
Velayati made the remark in a meeting with visiting Head of Belgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee Derek Vander Molen in Tehran on Sunday.
Iran and Belgium have experienced two centuries of amicable relations and Iranian officials at the foreign ministry attach priority to expansion of relations with Belgium, Velayati said.
Countries supporting terrorism and those creating takfiri and terrorist groups in the region have fallen trap of their miscalculation and it will not be easy to get rid of this situation, he said.
These governments never assumed that the Syrian people and its legal government will resist six months against aggression of aliens, he said.
Observing three main principles defined as maintaining Syrian territorial integrity, cutting the interference of foreign powers and legalization of Syrian government could lead to end of the country’s crisis, Velayati said.
What the Americans did in Deirez-Zor of Iraq was a grave mistake led to assassination of innocent civilians, he said.
The visiting Head of Belgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, for his part said to resolve the crisis in Syria big coalition under leadership of the UN should be formed.
‘We know that you (Velayati) have full command on regional and international developments with invaluable experiences and believes that your views on Syrian crisis as well as other regional crisis could be very useful,’ he said.
Board overseeing JCPO aregularly -Velayati
On the other hand, Ali-Akbar Velayati says the Board Overseeing Implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) convenes regularly with President Rouhani attending it and examining implementation of the deal.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with the Head of Belgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee Derek Vander Molen, he added that Iran has adhered to it commitments from the beginning and if the opposite party wants the trend takes its course, they should also observe their commitments.
Dismissing the US Secretary of State John Kerry’s claim that the Americans have kept their promises, Velayati said they have launched propaganda and all know that they broke their promises and refused to fulfill their commitments.
Asked about the US’ seeking excuses for military intervention in Syria, he said that the Americans have examined their chances in Afghanistan and Iraq and they were defeated in both countries.
Syria, which is fighting against the aliens, especially the westerners, and the US is certainly capable of withstanding US military intervention, he said.
If the Americans are wise, they will never repeat the same mistake they made in Iraq and Afghanistan because they will sustain a crushing defeat this time, he said.
Responding to a question over Germans’ setting conditions for communication with Iran, the official said, ‘They say such things to please the Zionists and the Americans and we need not such a communication with the Germany.’
They said they will forge ties with Iran if it forges communications with the Zionist regime, but to no avail, Velayati said, noting that Iran will never recognize the occupying regime.
