The Syrian National Symphony Orchestra is of great and remarkable importance due to its humanitarian message addressed to the world that creativity in Syria has continued during the extraordinary circumstances of the war and in the light of the precautionary measures adopted to tackle the Corona virus.
The Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Missak Baghboudarian, represented Syria’s deep-rooted civilization in many Arab and foreign forums.
The orchestra was founded by the late Maestro Sulhi Al-Wadi in 1993 after establishing the Higher Institute for Music and dedicated its activities to spread music in Syria .
In 1995, the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra performed its first opera in Syria “Dido and Aeneas “which was written by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell.
The first opera performance was hosted on the theaters of Damascus, Palmyra and Bosra, during which the Syrian national symphony orchestra appeared with different and well-known orchestra conductors on the Arab and international levels, including Nuri El Ruheibany, Riccardo Muti, Eduard Melkus and Walid Gholmieh. A number of famous and remarkable soloists from all over the world have participated in the national orchestra’s concerts.
The Syrian National Symphony Orchestra participated in the official opening ceremony of Damascus Opera House conducted by Maestro Baghboudarian as well as in the opening and concluding activities of “Damascus the Arab Capital of Culture” in 2008
It is noteworthy to mention that a number of the national orchestra’s members won several international awards as soloists.
