Corruption Should be Uprooted- Premier

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has affirmed the government’s keenness to uproot all components of corruption within the Syrian society, ministries, government and nongovernment institutions.

The Premier, who was chairing a meeting on Sunday for the leading staff of the Central Commission for Control and Inspection, stressed the need to adopt preventive measures against corruption so as to immunize the society and achieve social justice among citizens.

He urged the commission to improve the performance of its control systems in a way that achieves equality and keeps the state’s financial resources.

“The government is mobilizing the national potentials to combat corruption, the plague which hit many state institutions,” the Premier said, pointing out that crises produce more corrupted people.

He added that the aim of the meeting is to evaluate the performance of the commission and to see whether the new tasks go in harmony with the government’s policy to embodying citizens’ aspirations in applying accountability against all who are involved in corruption without exceptions or immunity to anyone.

Al-Halqi urged the staff of the Commission to lay the foundation of a more effective performance that attains social justice and equality of opportunities, stressing the government’s readiness to provide all requirements of success.

He asserted the important role of civil society, media and education and religious institutions in helping control bodies fight corruption trough immunizing society and enhancing the noble values and principles of the Syrian citizens.
