Sharjah (ST): The Cool Art Palmyra project won the Special Excellence Award during the ICCROM Sharjah Award Ceremony for Good Practices in Preserving and Protecting Cultural Heritage in the Arab Region 2020-2022, which was held in the Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
The Cool Art Palmyra project, an integrated project in the Temple of Baal Shamin in Palmyra, won the Special Excellence Award, along with three other projects, the Hisham Palace project in Jericho, the Qarara village project in Gaza, and the digital documentation project for historical documents in Jerusalem.
The grand prize for the third session was won by the project to protect Beirut’s cultural heritage from Lebanon and the project to rehabilitate the houses and buildings surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem from Palestine.
The honoring also included the two projects that won the last session of the ICCROM Sharjah Award, which was held two years ago, namely, the project to rehabilitate the Al-Saqatiyah market in Aleppo. The award was received by Dr. Ali Ismail, winner of the grand prize in the category of buildings and archaeological sites and the digitization and first aid project for the documentary heritage of the manuscript collection in the Omari Mosque Library in Gaza, the winner of the grand prize in the category of collectibles and collections within cultural institutions.
