DAMASCUS, (ST)-Despite the global war, which has been targeting all economic and services sectors in Syria, the Syrian national economy has kept its steadfastness and balance and started preparing for launching the process of reconstruction and production in the country, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has stressed.
Al-Halqi, who was speaking during the 29th Exceptional Conference of the Syndicate of Construction Contractors, held yesterday in Damascus, affirmed that contractors are to play the main role in Syria’s process of reconstruction.
“Holding such conferences under the extraordinary circumstances in the country indicates that Syria has started to get recovered. It is also an opportunity for contractors to exchange expertise and put forward new ideas and suggestions that push the reform and development process forward, al Halqi said.
He added the government began implementing an emergency plan for early recovery and reconstruction in a way that achieves balanced development and attains justice of distribution. The government also took a package of incentive steps to attract expatriate Syrian businessmen and ensure funding resources.
The premier talked to the contractors about the government’s efforts to provide requirements of relief program and to compensate the displaced and terrorism-effected citizens for their losses. He affirmed the government’s support for the Syrian Pound and the agricultural sector which is considered as a strategic option to achieve food security. Ha also spoke of the government’s keenness to support national reconciliation across the country and encourage export industries to alleviate the import burdens and make hard currency available.
For his part, Minister of Public Works Hussein Arnous stressed the ministry’s keenness to solve contractors’ problems and eliminate any obstacles that may hinder their activities and role in the country’s building process.
President of the Construction Contractors Syndicate Mohammad Ramadan said that Syria has resumed the era of building, construction and economic support through implementing great development and services projects and through solving citizens’ issues. He affirmed the need to adopt necessary government procedures to alleviate the repercussions of the crisis on contractors in Syria.
