Continuous attacks on educational institutions by Qasad militia threaten depriving thousands of students from education
Al-Hasaka, (ST) – Qasad (SDF) militia associated with the US occupation continues with its violations and its policy of restrictions on the people of al-Hasaka governorate to impose what they want by force within the areas they seize. The education sector had a share of these practices through the US-backed militia taking over the buildings and headquarters of secondary schools and closing them completely in these areas to deprive thousands of students and pupils from their schools and education.
The “Qasad militia” had previously seized the headquarters of basic education schools throughout the governorate that it controls, banned teaching within them, and imposed curricula that differ from the curricula of the Syrian Ministry of Education, amid popular rejection of the people, represented by demonstrations and protests.
In a statement to the SANA reporter, the director of Al-Hasakah Education, Elham Sorkhan, said that, these actions will negatively affect the reality of the educational process throughout the province of Hasaka and lead it to a decline in the educational level. These actions also constitute a major pressure factor on the remaining public schools, especially since the parents refuse to deal and teach with curricula that are not recognized in the first place and insist to learn according to the curricula approved by the Syrian Ministry of Education.
Sourkhan indicated that the total number of successful students up to the tenth grade reached 9,400 male and female students, 70 percent of whom are in public education and 30 percent in vocational education, and the Qasad militias’ seizure of secondary schools means that students are deprived of education.
She said that, the “Qasad militia” informed the administrative cadres in secondary schools not to return to schools during the current academic year, threatening them with kidnapping and arrest, and seized all the contents of the schools, including furniture and educational tools related to the teaching process.
Sourkhan called for taking all necessary measures to put an end to these practices and to permanently banish the “Qasad” militia from education, indicating that there is popular rejection and resentment of its actions and its attempt to impose everything by force of arms.
A parent in the city told SANA reporter that, a general state of confusion and anxiety prevails among the people of the governorate with the approaching opening of schools, and with the persistence of the “Qasad militia” in its violations and its irresponsible plans, it has become imperative that there be effective intervention to find a solution to the education file.
