Continued Fight against Terrorist Organizations Underscored

DAMASCUS, (ST) – H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad reiterated the readiness of the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic as to implement the recently concluded Russian-US agreement regarding the  cessation of hostilities in Syria

In a phone conversation Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Assad underscored importance for the continued fight against  the terrorist ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations.

President Putin’s Office issued a statement noting that the two leaders discussed various aspects of the Syrian conflict in the context of implementing the Russian-US statement (Russia and the United States being co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group) on cessation of hostilities in Syria starting on February 27, 2016.

Mr. al-Assad assessed the proposals contained in the statement as an important step towards political settlement and confirmed the Syrian government’s readiness to facilitate the ceasefire’s implementation.

Mr. Putin and Mr. al-Assad stressed at the same time the need to continue the uncompromising fight against ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other groups on the UN Security Council’s list of terrorist organizations.
