Constructive Cooperation between Syrian Government and UNHCR Needed to Facilitate Return of Syrian Refugees

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian government and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) must maintain constructive cooperation as to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees home, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed.

During his meeting on Wednesday with UNHCR’s Head Filippo Grandi , al-Mikdad explained the procedures adopted by the Syrian government to facilitate displaced Syrians’ return, affirming the government’s keenness on cooperation with UNHCR on the basis of preserving the independence, sovereignty and unity of the Syrian people and territories.

 Al-Mikdad asserted that the return of displaced Syrians home shouldn’t be associated with any suspicious agendas that don’t serve the interests of the displaced Syrians and their return.

On his part, Grandi  expressed satisfaction over the current cooperation between the commission and the Syrian state, noting the readiness of the organization to mobilize all potentials to meet the basic requirements for the return of the refugees and to help the Syrian government provide required services upon the arrival of returnees to their residence places.
