The national delegation to Syria’s Mini-Constitutional Committee will leave Damascus next Sunday to Geneva to take part in a new round of meetings of the committee for discussing and amending the Syrian constitution scheduled to kick off on Monday, August 24, 2020, and last for a week, according to the local “al-Watan Online” Newspaper.
The mini-committee comprises 45 members, 15 representing the national delegation, 15 representing the Syrian civil society and the remaining 15 representing the oppositions. The committee is co-headed by Dr. Ahmad al-Kuzbari for the national delegation and by Hadi al-Bahra for the oppositions’ delegation.
The UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen will take part in the meetings as a facilitator.
“Al-Watan Online” cited a western diplomatic source as saying that Pedersen’s office has completed all the arrangements to host this session, which has been postponed for months due to the Coronavirus crisis.
The forthcoming meeting is the third for the mini-committee, which stems from the main constitutional committee that includes 150 members, fifty for each of the participating parties.
