Conference of (International Decade for Action on Water) in Tajikistan concludes its work with the participation of Syria

Dushanbe (ST): The activities of the second international conference of the International Decade of Action on Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028 concluded in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, in which Syria participated with a delegation headed by the Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad.

The conference’s recommendations focused on the need to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 sustainable development goals and those related to water, which is a basic goal for the water decade that ends in 2028.

The main themes of the conference included strengthening local, regional and international partnerships, achieving the interdependence of water, food, energy, environment and health, increasing the efficiency of water management and use, and developing solutions of natural origin to water quality problems, in addition to achieving justice in securing drinking water and sanitation services in cities and rural areas.

The axes included cooperation in the field of shared cross-border water to achieve water security and sustainability, raising awareness about water in all sectors, as it is the main element in it, and focusing on the role of improving knowledge, education and communication in water management and conservation, and developing scientific solutions to water challenges.

Minister Raad visited the Norak dam located on the Vakhsh River, which is considered the second-highest dam in the world, with a height of 300 meters, with a lake volume of 10.5 billion cubic meters, and a hydroelectric station capacity of 3 gigawatts.
