Commemorating 42nd anniversary of liberating Quneitra, people of occupied Golan renew steadfastness against occupation

Occupied Syrian Golan– People of occupied Syrian Golan stressed steadfastness against the Israeli occupation and its brutal exercises, underlining that only the will of the Syrians and their sacrifices will defeat terrorism, SANA reported.

The 26th of June, 1974 marks a day of pride for Syrians across the country on which the Israeli occupation of the southern city of Quneitra was brought to an end.

A number of Golanese told SANA that liberating Quneitra came as a result of October Libration war and the bravery of the Syrian Army.

Sheikh Jad al-Karim Nasser said that the Israeli occupation has not forgotten for four decades its defeat in Quneitra and” that is why it supports the terrorist organizations in Syria with the aim of undermining this steadfast city in an attempt to erase the victory from our memories.”

Hayel al-Massoud saluted the Syrian Arab army, expressing confidence that it will defeat terrorism. He also stressed that Quneitra offered heavy sacrifices in countering the Israeli occupation and it will continue to offer more sacrifices to combat terrorism.

The city of Quneitra, located in the Golan heights, came under Israeli control on 10 June 1967, the last day of the Six-Day War. It was briefly recaptured by Syria during the 1973 War, only to once again fall in the Israeli occupation forces’ hands.

It was largely demolished by the time Syria, under the leadership of late President Hafez al-Assad, liberated it from occupation in 1974.
