DAMASCUS, (ST)-Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Sammat stressed the role being played by civil society associations in support of the governments’ relief and social efforts to withstand the crisis in Syria.
Al-Shammat, who was speaking yesterday during a ceremony held by “Nour Association for Relief and Development” marking its 1st Foundation anniversary, hailed the association’s great relief and development efforts and lauded youths’ important role in the voluntary and relief activities of civil society associations, stressing that “those youths are risking their lives while doing their humanitarian duty in providing assistance to citizens affected by the crisis.”
On his part, Minister of State for National Reconciliation Ali Haidar also praised the humanitarian activities of Al-Nour and other civil society associations in extending a helping hand to people under the ongoing war.
Father Luqa al-Khouri affirmed the need for active associations that can mobilize and correctly invest the efforts and potentials of societies, stressing that such associations are to play a significant role after Syria achieves victory on its enemies.
Chairman of the Board of al-Nour Association, Mohammad Jalbout spoke of the association’s events, which reached 136, focusing mainly on the relief, social and development fields. He pointed out that despite dangers and difficulties the work teams of the association have been contributed to alleviating the suffering of citizens.
“The association won’t stop here it will carry on its relief and development activities,” Jalbout said, pointing out that the association is getting ready to launch a relief campaign in al-Yarmouk Camp in addition to a vaccination campaign targeting children in Damascus.
He highly appreciated the support provided by government parties, by international humanitarian organizations acting in Syria and by Palestinian organizations ad associations.
