Last night , Syrian Civil Defense firefighting teams were able to control several fires in the Jabal al-Turkman forests in the northeastern Latakia countryside. They are still dealing with two large and other smaller fires in the area.
The Civil Defense stated on its Telegram channel that extinguishing operations are being conducted amid significant difficulties, including the rugged terrain, steep rocky cliffs, and the presence of war remnants that threaten the safety of firefighters. In addition, there are strong winds, high temperatures, and remote water sources.
The Civil Defense indicated that teams are also continuing to cool down the fires that have been extinguished for fear of re-ignition. The Civil Defense estimated the burned area at more than 30 hectares, while no damage to homes has been recorded.
Civil Defense noted that despite these difficulties, firefighting teams are exerting their utmost efforts to deal with the fire, control it, and prevent it from spreading to additional areas. Additional reinforcements have been dispatched from firefighting teams in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, especially with expectations of rising temperatures and strong winds on Sunday, May 11.
