Churkin: UNSC Agrees on ‘Good Text’ of Aleppo Draft Resolution, Vote Scheduled for Monday

UNITED NATIONS — The UN Security Council came up on Sunday with a “good text” of the draft resolution on the deployment of UN observers to Syrian Aleppo and the vote will take place on Monday, Russian envoy to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said, according to Sputnik.

“We’ve put in some good hours of work and have a good text, and we agreed to vote on it tomorrow morning,” Churkin told reporters.

France’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Francois Delattre said on Friday his country plans to initiate a resolution on deploying an international mission to monitor and coordinate evacuation of people from Aleppo eastern districts.

Earlier on Sunday before Security Council consultations, Churkin said that Russia won’t let the French draft resolution Pass, describing the draft as dangerous and impossible to implement.

“We believe that what they are suggesting is impossible to implement and dangerous,” Churkin said.

“We cannot support [the draft resolution], we cannot let it pass,” Churkin stressed when asked whether Russia would support this draft resolution.

Commenting on the resolution, Churkin said that Russia will present its own, “very clear” proposals on the situation in Aleppo to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
