DAMASCUS – Christian denominations in Syria, who follow the Eastern calendar, on Sunday celebrated Easter, the resurrection of Jesus the Christ, by performing prayers and masses at all churches, SANA reported.
His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Syrian Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East presided over a holy mass at St. George’s Patriarchal Cathedral at Bab Touma in Damascus.
Following Easter prayers, the patriarch said in his preach that “the Syrians, Muslims and Christians, are members of one family and they are adherent to their homeland, Syria, form where Christianity spread throughout the world.”
He called on the Syrian expatriates to cooperate with the governments of the countries where they live for restoring security and stability to Syria.
He stressed that everyone should help reach a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and rebuild it, reiterating that Syria will achieve victory in its war against terrorism thanks to its people who rally around their army and the wise leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.
