On May 2nd, the Christian sects that follow the Eastern calendar celebrate Easter, beseeching God for peace in Syria, amid a commitment to precautionary measures to combat the Coronavirus.
In Lattakia, prayers, masses and chants were held in the Church of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel for the Greek Orthodox. The prayers were performed by Father Elian Khoury, the Dormition Church of the Virgin of the Roman Orthodox performed by Father Philip Fadoul, the Church of Saint Nicola performed by Father Ibrahim Tamer, and the Church of Saint John performed by Father George Murqadi.
The sermons included talking about the meanings of this occasion represented in the resurrection of Christ, the Messenger of love and peace, and spreading the values of tolerance, mercy and supplication to God for security and stability to prevail in Syria.
The sermons emphasized the importance of broad participation in the upcoming presidential elections because they represent the strengthening of the concept of national sovereignty and the rejection of foreign interference in decisions and policies that are the right of the Syrian people alone.
In Daraa, Father Gerges, the pastor of the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation to the Greek Orthodox city of Daraa, affirmed the lofty meanings of the resurrection of Christ, the Messenger of love and peace, beseeching God that good, health and stability prevail in every inch of Syria.
Elias Haddad, Razan Waqas, Farid Kanhoushand Alaa Al-Eid, wished that this occasion would return to Syria with good and the disappearance of worries and epidemics.
In Sweida, Metropolitan Saba headed a mass in the Church of Saint George in the Archdiocese of Bosra, Horan and Jabal al-Arab for the Greek Orthodox city of As-Suwayda. The divine mass was held in the open air in light of the precautionary measures to address the Coronavirus.
Father Nicola Waqas, pastor of the Saint George Church of the Greek Orthodox Church, indicated that with the resurrection of Christ on this blessed day, joy and peace prevailed all over the world, wishing that this occasion would be a resurrection for Syria after years of war.
Inas Abdulkareem
