Cholera death toll rises to 98 in Sudan

Khartoum, (ST) – The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced a significant increase in cholera infections, with the total number of infected people reaching 2,583, and the death toll rising to 98.

The ministry on Monday reported in a statement, according to local media, that 234 new infections were recorded in the states of Gedaref and Kassala, which contributed to the increase in the total number of cases and that the number of deaths due to the disease reached 98 cases, which raises concerns about the health situation in the country.

The ministry announced on August 19 that the country was suffering from an outbreak of cholera, while the World Health Organization explained that cholera is a rapidly developing and highly contagious disease that causes diarrhea, which leads to severe dehydration and possible death within hours if left untreated.
