Chinese President: We reject Cold War mentality and will build a world-class army

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on his Communist Party members to strive to build a modern socialist China in an all-round way.

The Chinese news agency, Xinhua, quoted Xi as saying today at the opening of the 20th  National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) that Beijing will move forward in maintaining the one-China principle. It will also seek reunification with Taiwan by all means, including force. He strongly condemned foreign interference in Taiwan, and praised his country’s success in preserving Hong Kong and moving it from chaos.

The Chinese president reiterated his country’s rejection of the Cold War mentality in international politics, noting that Beijing will enhance strategic deterrence capabilities and start building a world-class army.

He stated that the Communist Party of China firmly advocates pluralism in international relations, and firmly opposes the politics of hegemony and brute force.

In a related context, the Chinese President stressed the need to continue to give priority to promoting high-quality development, and work to accelerate China’s transformation into a leading industrial power in the world. Called for  accelerating the establishment of a modern economic system, and focusing on improving overall productivity and enhancing the flexibility and security of production and supply.

The President underlined the need to promote and develop the public sector of the economy, encourage, support and guide the development of the private sector, highlight the role of the market in distributing resources and demonstrate the market’s role more effectively. He also stressed the need to promote a new type of industrialization and accelerate China’s transformation into a leading global power in terms of developing manufacturing technologies, aerospace, transportation and networking as well as product quality.

The CPC general secretary noted  the urgency to consolidate the leading position of competitive industries, speed up work to compensate for deficiencies in areas related to state security and development, and increase the ability to ensure the provision of strategically important resources.

Meanwhile, China has called on its citizens to leave Ukraine, according to the China Daily newspaper today.

The newspaper quoted unidentified sources as saying: “Citizens of the People’s Republic of China who are in Ukraine are invited to evacuate, and the Chinese Embassy in Kiev is ready to provide assistance in organizing the departure.”

A few days ago, the representative office of China had called on its citizens not to stay on the territory of Ukraine unless it was absolutely necessary and to leave it in a timely manner when it was safe to do so.
