China to Continue Playing Constructive Role in Support of Attaining Political Settlement in Syria: Xiaoyan

BEIJING, (ST)- China has been among the first countries that called for finding political solution to the crisis in Syria and it has exerted great efforts for this purpose, the Chinese Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan has stressed.

In a statement to the Chinese Xinhua News Agency on Friday, Xiaoyan said his country would continue playing a constructive role in support of efforts aiming to attain settlement in Syria and to work with the international community for finding political solution through dialogue among all concerned parties.

The Chinese envoy wondered if the United States had a real intension to fight “Deash” terrorist organization and put an end to its expansion, pointing out that the American role in the Middle East will retreat when the new US President Donald Trump takes power in January, 2017 as his focus will be basically made on US domestic trade.

Last Friday, Xiaoyan announced that China will expand its participation in political efforts aiming to achieve the hoped-for cessation of hostilities in Syria. He said “China can be an important trusted player in the multilateral talks on this issue.
