China: The establishment of a Palestinian state is a long-awaited desire

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a disgrace to human civilization, renewing Beijing’s calls for an immediate ceasefire.

Agence France-Presse quoted Wang as saying in a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress of China: “It is a tragedy for humanity and a disgrace to civilization… as we are witnessing in the 21st  century such an unstoppable humanitarian catastrophe”.

He continued: “The disaster in Gaza once again reminded the world of the fact that it is no longer possible to ignore that the Palestinian territories have been occupied for a long time,” expressing his country’s support for the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations.

Wang explained, “The long-awaited desire of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state can no longer be avoided, and the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people cannot continue for generations without being corrected.”

He pointed out that, in light of the complex and volatile international environment, and as human society faces multiple challenges, China will remain a force for peace, stability and progress in the world, and will stand firmly and strongly on the right side of history and on the side of human progress.

Wang pointed out that as China devotes itself to peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, it will continue to make unremitting efforts to safeguard world peace and development while moving forward on the path of its own development, and will make greater contributions to global peace and development through its own development.
