Beijing (ST): Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li summoned the Japanese ambassador to Beijing, Tarumi Hideo, to protest the G7 foreign ministers’ joint statement on Taiwan.
China’s state-run TV channel quoted Deng as saying that Japan, along with other G7 countries, issued a wrong statement on Taiwan that confuses right and wrong, seriously violating the basic rules of international relations and the principles of the four political documents between China and Japan, noting that this statement sends a dangerous wrong signal to International Community.
“China opposes and strongly condemns the statement,” he added, stressing in this context that the Taiwan issue is the political basis for Sino-Japanese relations and called on Tokyo to stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.
