TEHRAN – China lambasted the European Union on Tuesday for imposing new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, calling again for talks to resolve the stand-off.
“We oppose the imposition of unilateral sanctions on Iran and believe that using sanctions to exert pressure cannot fundamentally resolve the Iran nuclear issue,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said.
“It can only make the situation more complex and intensify confrontation… We hope that all relevant parties can show flexibility, increase communication and push for a new round of talks as soon as possible,” Lei added according to Reuters.
Iran is under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West’s calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment, saying the demand is politically tainted and illogical.
Iranian officials have always stressed that the International and unilateral sanctions against Iran have had no result but inflicting damage on the European companies.
