China’s Special Envoy for Syria Urges Unifying International Efforts against Terrorism

BEIJING, (ST)-China’s first special envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan has urged the international community to unify efforts and work harder to defeat terrorism in the region.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Xiaoyan said the military operations carried out by the Syrian Arab Army in cooperation with the Russian air force were part of the international efforts aiming to combat terrorism.

He pointed out that Russia’s support for Syria’s anti-terror efforts have effectively curbed the spread of  the foreign-backed terrorists and extremists in the country.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced last week that it appointed a special envoy for Syria with the purpose of enhancing the intra-Syrian dialogue and boosting effective contacts among concerned parties.
