China Reaffirms Support for Syria’s War on Terrorism, Reconstruction Process

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Chinese Ambassador to Syria Feng Biao has reaffirmed his country’s support for Syria’s war on terrorism and its willingness to take part in the country’s all-out reconstruction process. He has also stressed Beijing’s keenness on boosting relations with Syria in all domains.

Biao made the remarks during a reception held Monday evening at the Chinese Embassy in Damascus to celebrate China’s 70th National Day. The celebration was attended by senior Syrian officials, MPs and a number of invitees representing people’s organizations, economic, cultural, religious and social sides.

 The Chinese diplomat stressed China’s support for Syria at international forums and its call for respecting the UN Charter, the rules of the international law and Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reiterated that the Syrian people have the exclusive right to decide their own future.

On his part, The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid a-Moallem congratulated the Chinese government and people on China’s National Day, affirming the importance of enhancing bilateral ties.

Al-Maollem thanked China for its support at international gatherings, highly appreciating Beijing’s use of veto at the Security Council to block a resolution that provides protection to terrorists.

The Syrian top diplomat also thanked China, Russia and Iran for the efforts they exerted to facilitate the talks aiming at reaching an agreement on the constitutional committee on Syria.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced Monday that an agreement on the creation of a committee to discuss the Syrian constitution was reached, hailing the Syrian government’s efforts to conclude this deal.
