Beijing (ST): China expressed its strong opposition to the United States’ moves to enhance its military deployment in the Asia-Pacific region, citing non-existent threats.
Xinhua news agency quoted Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesman Wu Qian as saying yesterday about the US plan to add 20 new air defense sites equipped with surface-to-air interception missiles and radars in Guam: “The United States is using non-existent threats as an excuse to enhance military deployment in Asia and the Pacific, which undermines the security interests of other countries and raises regional tensions.”
Qian added: The American side must abandon the Cold War mentality and narrow-minded geopolitical thinking.
