China makes great progress in protecting cultural relics

Beijing (ST): The Chinese Ministry of Culture announced that remarkable progress has been made in protecting cultural relics over the past decade and promoting the creative transformation and development of traditional Chinese culture.

Xinhua quoted Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Rao Quan as saying at a press conference: “By the end of 2021, China had 108 million sets of state-owned movable cultural relics and about 767,000 immovable collections, while the total number of world heritage sites in the country reached 56”.

Rao added: “Steady progress has also been made in the protection of intangible cultural heritage for the transmission of Chinese culture, and so far, China has 42 intangible cultural heritage items on UNESCO’s lists of intangible cultural heritage, ranking first in the world,”.
