China is one of Syria’s most important economic partners

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Yesterday, China marked its 70th National Day with more determination to deepen the principles of international law, justice, world peace and UN principles, to achieve root changes in the frameworks of socio-economic development in the country and to enhance cooperation and friendship with other countries of the world.

The Syrian-Chinese relations have been distinguished by being based on mutual respect and on the joint stances in support just causes and against non interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

These relations have grown notably in the political, economic and cultural fields since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 63 years ago.

The deep strategic relations were embodied in China’s firm support for Syria in its war on terrorism and at international gatherings. They were also expressed clearly in Beijing’s call for respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the Syrians’ right to decide the future of their country.

Moreover, China is one of Syria’s most important economic partners. The value of trade exchange between the two countries reached in 2018 USD1.270 billion at an increase rate of 15,4% compared to past years. Besides, 55 Chinese companies took part in the activities of the 61st Damascus International Fair and China presently trains Syrian cadres and qualify them. More than 300 Syrians have received training on different specializations since the beginning of this year.

In 2013, the Chinese President Xi Jinping presented his initiative “One Belt One Raod” which was welcomed by most countries of the world and which goes in line with Syria’s strategic initiative based on eastward orientation.

China, on several occasions, affirmed that it is committed to peaceful development and it has no hegemonic schemes. Today, it is the second largest contributor to the UN budget and the number 1 contributor to peacekeeping activities.

Figures indicate an increase in China’s Gross Domestic Production. With a 1105-fold increase in 2018 compared to 1949, China has become the second largest economy in the world. Its economic growth equals about 30% of that of the world economy over past years. China also leads the world in several areas including the G5 communication technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and several other domains.
