China has expressed deep concern over the Israeli occupation’s plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

“Such a plan, if implemented, would seriously violate international law and relevant UN resolutions and endanger peace in the region. We urge the party concerned to abstain from taking any unilateral actions, ”  Xinhua quoted Zhang Jun, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, as saying during a virtual meeting of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East.

“It is necessary to stop settlement activities, the demolishing of Palestinian buildings, and violence against civilians,” Zhang said, underlining the need for the Security Council to carry out its tasks and play its role to ensure the full implementation of its resolutions, including Resolution No. 2334.

Zhang pointed to the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the difficulties experienced by the Palestinian people as a result of the practices of the Israeli occupation, adding that “the continuous blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip has exacerbated the humanitarian situation of the Palestinians and the spread of “Covid 19” makes the  economic and social situation more fragile.

Zhang pointed out that the Security Council should stand with peace and justice, with truth and conscience, and play its effective role in finding a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to annex Palestinian lands in the West Bank, in flagrant violation of international legitimacy and its decisions regarding the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories.
