China, Egypt Affirm Political Process in Syria Should be Led by the Syrians Themselves

CAIRO, (ST)-China’s Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan and the Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Tarek Adel on Monday discussed ways to make progress in Syria’s political process, to maintain and expand the cessation of hostilities as to cover all the Syrian lands in parallel with fighting terrorist organizations like ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra.

A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the two sides reaffirmed that the political process in Syria should be led by the Syrians themselves with the assistance of the international community.

The two diplomats renewed support for the task of the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura in managing the intra-Syrian talks. They reiterated the need that peaceful settlement in Syria should maintain the civil state in Syria and should preserve the country’s territorial integrity, state institutions and the cohesion of the Syrian society.

Focus was made during the meeting on the obstacles facing the delivery of humanitarian aid to terrorism affected areas.
