China Condemns Israel’s Targeting of UNIFIL Forces in Southern Lebanon

China strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on the positions and equipment of the United Nations Interim Force in southern Lebanon “UNIFIL” .

“China expresses its deep concern and strong condemnation of the attack by Israeli forces on UNIFIL positions and observation posts, which caused injuries among its personnel,” AFP quoted Chinese foreign spokesperson Mao Ning today.

China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Zong, also strongly condemned the targeting of UNIFIL sites at the UN Security Council yesterday, saying: “these forces are carrying out peacekeeping missions mandated by the Security Council resolution, and any deliberate attacks on them constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council resolutions and such actions should be stopped immediately.

He called for an investigation into these attacks, accountability of those responsible, taking the necessary measures to prevent their recurrence and ensuring the safety and security of all United Nations personnel and property, including UNIFIL troops.
