China calls on the United States to immediately lift sanctions on Syria

Beijing, (ST)-  China has called on the United States to immediately lift the unilateral sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, to allow the international community to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the victims of the catastrophic earthquake, and to avoid further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

Mao Ning, spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said during a press conference on Wednesday: “The US military occupation of part of the Syrian territories and harsh economic measures caused great losses among civilians. It led to depriving the Syrian people of the basic necessities of life and obstructing economic development and reconstruction in it,” according to Xinhua.

The spokeswoman pointed out that the American occupation forces are still occupying the main oil fields in Syria to this day. They are plundering more than 80 percent of the Syrian oil production, and smuggling and burning the strategic grain stocks in Syria, which exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

She stressed the need for the United States to abandon its geopolitical obsession, lift unilateral sanctions on Syria immediately, and allow humanitarian aid to reach the afflicted Syrian people.
