New York (ST): China renewed its demand for the immediate and complete lifting of Western unilateral coercive measures on Syria, calling on the UN Security Council to set clear provisions to achieve this purpose.
Xinhua news agency quoted Dai Bing, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, as saying yesterday in a discussion of the United Nations General Assembly on the humanitarian issue in Syria: “We have always supported the United Nations and the international community in providing humanitarian assistance to Syria in line with the principles of humanity, neutrality and impartiality. The unilateral coercive measures have had incalculable negative effects on the social and economic recovery and development in Syria by impeding the work of international humanitarian agencies in the country.”
He stressed that such measures have become the most important obstacle to resolving the Syrian humanitarian issue, and therefore they must be lifted immediately and completely, and the Security Council must set clear provisions to achieve this end.”
On the eighth of this month, Russia vetoed a Western draft resolution in the UN Security Council to extend the effects of Resolution 2585 regarding the delivery of aid to Syria across the border with Turkey for a year.
