China calls for increased humanitarian support and the lifting of illegal sanctions on Syria

New York (ST): China called for increased support for humanitarian funding issues in Syria, and for the concerned parties to fulfill their obligations in this regard to bridge funding gaps, stressing the need to lift all illegal unilateral sanctions on Syria, without conditions and completely.

Xinhua news agency quoted Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, as saying yesterday in a briefing to the UN Security Council on Syria: “At present, the large gaps in humanitarian funding for Syria have already affected the implementation of relief operations and early recovery projects, and we hope that the parties concerned will fulfill their obligations and increase their financial support.”

Geng added: The Syrian government has taken positive measures to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to all regions, and has completed procedures for approving the entry of aid across the lines on a case-by-case basis, and has facilitated the issuance of visas for humanitarian workers, and continued: “These initiatives and measures are welcomed by the parties concerned.”

The Chinese official indicated that the Security Council should take into account the developments of the situation in Syria and the implementation of Resolution No. 2672 in its planning for the next stage of work in a scientific manner, to continue increasing the provision of humanitarian relief to Syria and alleviating its humanitarian crisis.
