China and DPRK: Resuming Syria’s participation in Arab League meetings helps boost stability in the region

On May 15th, China and the DPRK welcomed the Arab League’s decision to resume Syria’s participation in the meetings of the Arab League Council.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stressed during a press conference that the resumption of Syria’s participation in the meetings of the institutions of the Arab League will help strengthen its unity, accelerate development and promote peace and stability in the region.

The Chinese spokesman explained that Syria’s return serves the long-term interests of the Arab countries, saying: “Regardless of the negative American position on this step, the return of Syria to the Arab League is a good thing and it shows once again that when the shadow of America shrinks, the light of peace spreads.”

In the same context, the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) affirmed that the return of Syria’s membership of the Arab League is “a great victory for the Syrian government and people, and it has another significance, because it dealt a blow to the attempts of hostile powers, including the United States and the West, against Syria and its sovereignty.

The Korean Foreign Ministry indicated that the struggle of the Syrian people and their leadership to preserve sovereignty and achieve territorial integrity will never be deterred by any extremist actions on the part of the United States and other hostile forces.

The ministry affirmed that Pyongyang welcomes resuming Syria’s participation in the Arab League meetings, condemning Washington’s attempts to isolate Syria, its sanctions on the Syrians and its hostile stances towards the country.

The Ministry said: Despite the harsh conditions that Syria has suffered during the crisis, it remained optimistic, fought hard and strived to expand its foreign relations, which foiled all the conspiracies hatched by the hostile forces on it.

On May 7th, the foreign ministers of the League of Arab States issued Resolution No. 8914, in which they approved the resumption of the participation of delegations of the Syrian Arab Republic in the meetings of the League Council and all its affiliated organizations and agencies.
