China: All illegal Western sanctions on Syria must be lifted unconditionally

New York (ST): China has renewed its demand for the unconditional lifting of all illegal Western sanctions imposed on Syria, noting that the temporary suspension of part of them does not address the long-term damages they cause.

Xinhua news agency quoted Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, as saying in a session of the UN Security Council on Syria yesterday: Western countries announced a temporary suspension of part of the sanctions after the devastating earthquake that struck Syria last month, but these temporary measures cannot cover the damage. The system caused by the long-term sanctions, and therefore the concerned countries must immediately lift all illegal unilateral sanctions on Syria without any restrictions or conditions, and stop the exacerbation that is taking place after this humanitarian catastrophe.

On the Israeli aggression on Aleppo International Airport at dawn last Wednesday, the Chinese deputy representative expressed his country’s deep concern over these attacks and stressed that they should not be repeated and that Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected, pointing out that this airport is an important civilian infrastructure and a major hub for transporting supplies.

Geng renewed China’s call to the illegal foreign forces to end their illegal military presence in Syria and stop the plundering of its natural resources.

The Chinese deputy delegate called on the international community to support the fight against terrorism in Syria without any tolerance, and not to allow any attempt to exploit terrorists for individual purposes because it will only backfire.
