Children’s Demands and Problems under Crisis in Syria Highlighted

Ministry of Social Affairs held Monday a consultation meeting with several children to discuss their causes under the ongoing crisis.

The meeting dealt with the needs and problems of Syrian children and with the efforts being exerted by the ministry and the Non-Governmental Organizations to meet these needs and to solve the problems.

The children talked about several issues including child labor and begging and the negative impacts of these problems on their future. They called for more action to enhance children’s talents and for expanding the schools of martyrs’ sons and daughters.

Social Affairs Minister Rima Qadri told reporters that it is important to involve children in decision making to help them be active in society.

“The meeting comes within the ministry’s plan to heed children’s rights and to know what they want,” she added.

Chairperson of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs Hadil al-Asmar underlined the need to hold meetings with children to listen to their demands and problems before drawing up policies related to children.

On her part, Chairperson of the Syrian Center of Child’s Rights Nisreen Hasan clarified that the meeting was held in response to the demand of the ‘blue wing’ campaign launched by the center.

Children representing the Martyrs’ sons’ schools, the Evangelical Church, Institutes for disabled persons, the Syrian center of child’s rights, Dar al-Rahmeh Institute, the Special Olympic Institute and the Baath Vanguards Organization took part in the meeting.
