Chemical Allegations by US and Its Allies against Syria Aim at Protecting the Terrorists: al-Jaafari

NEW YORK, (ST)- Allegations by the United States and its allies about the Syrian Arab army using chemical weapons in eastern Ghouta aim at protecting the terrorist organizations there,  Syria’s Permanent Representatives to the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari has stressed.

Interviewed by the Russian Sputnik news agency on Friday, al-Jaafari said that the parties supporting terrorism in Syria used to fabricate chemical attacks to blame the Syrian government and use them as a pretext to hinder the Syrian army’s advances in the battle against the terrorists. He added that the alleged chemical attacks have been repeatedly used to put political pressure on the Syrian state.

In this respect, al-Jaafari said that the Syrian government sent the Security Council and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) more than 140 letters that included documented information about the terrorists groups’ possession of chemical weapons provided to them by the countries supporting terrorism in Syria, but the UN General Secretariat ignored these confirmed information.

On the role of some regional countries in supporting terrorism in Syria, al-Jaafari said the Saudi and Qatari regimes as well as some Gulf states have funded and provided support for terrorist organizations in Syria to fuel the crisis. He added that the Turkish regime has also supported terrorism by opening its borders before thousands of terrorists and mercenaries to enter Syria, by facilitating the arming and funding of terrorism and by setting up training camps on the Turkish territory and helping the terrorists get poisonous chemical materials.

Concerning the Turkish regime’s aggression on Syria’s Afrin, the Syrian diplomat said “Syria won’t hesitate in defending every inch of its lands either against the terrorist organizations or against the invading Turkish, American and Israeli forces.
