Changing US administrations does not change Washington’s approach based on hegemony, says Kanaani

Tehran, (ST) –  Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani stressed that the United States’ addiction to the method of embargo and sanctions and its use as a means of pressure is a clear indication of the American system of hegemony. “This system does not change with the change of administrations”, he added.

In a statement in response to Washington’s announcement of new US embargo measures against trade with Iran, Kanaani said that, “officials in the Joe Biden administration have repeatedly described the policy of his predecessor, Donald Trump as unproductive policy. In practice predecessor continued in this unproductive policy, so that even amid the current efforts to resume negotiations for a return to the nuclear deal, they have not stopped this destructive behavior.”

Kanaani stressed that Iran will take a firm, strong and immediate response to the White House’s insistence on continuing the embargo, and all necessary measures will be taken to abort the possible negative effects of it on the country’s trade and economy.

He explained that the US behavior clearly revealed the deceptive nature presented by the US Special Representative in Iranian affairs, after the Iranian people incurred many victims and financial losses due to the floods.

Yesterday, the Biden administration imposed new unilateral bans on six foreign companies linked to the Iranian oil and petrochemical sector, in a new step aimed at increasing pressure on Iran.
