Chain reiterates its firm position on Humanitarian issue in Syria

New York, (ST) – China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dai Bing affirmed that his country’s position on the humanitarian issue in Syria is consistent and clear. He pointed out that Beijing has always stressed that humanitarian aid to Syria should respect the sovereignty of the Syrian state.

Xinhua quoted Dai as saying in a statement after the UN Security Council session yesterday, during which the decision to extend the mechanism for the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria was adopted that, we look forward to the strict adherence of all parties to the basic principles governing international humanitarian assistance, strict compliance with the requirements of Security Council resolutions, and ensuring the neutrality and transparency of aid and making it more effective.

” Dai reiterated that his country’s position on the humanitarian issue in Syria is consistent and clear, and that humanitarian aid to Syria must respect its sovereignty, and the delivery of aid must become across main lines, because its cross-border delivery is a temporary arrangement taken under specific circumstances. “It is necessary to speed up the transition to relief across these lines and a clear timetable for the complete end of cross-border relief”, he added.

Dai said that the unilateral Western measures imposed on Syria severely restrict the operations of international humanitarian agencies in it and contradict the efforts of the Security Council and the international community to improve humanitarian access and increase humanitarian resources in Syria. He indicated that China urges the relevant countries to immediately and comprehensively lift those unilateral measures against Syria.
