Central celebration at Hmeimim base on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of victory in the Great Russian Patriotic War

On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the Great Russian Patriotic War and the victory over Nazism in World War II, a central celebration was held today at the Russian military base in Hmeimim, in the presence of the representative of the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces, Commander of the Naval Forces and Coastal Defense, and the commander of the grouping of Russian forces operating in Syria, General Sergei Kisel.

The celebration included a military parade in which various military units and formations from the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian forces operating in Syria participated.

In a speech during the celebration, General Kisel praised the great victory achieved in the Great Patriotic War, which demonstrated the heroism of the warriors on the front, the unity of the people, the spirit of victory, and their love of the homeland.

General Kisel explained that it was the Soviet people who liberated Europe from the Nazi threat that destroyed and left millions of victims, pointing out that the brave Russian fighters are fighting today the new Nazis of Ukraine just like their ancestors did.

General Kisel pointed out that today’s veterans are proud of their brave descendants for the merit they possess to bring stability, peace and great victory to future generations.

In turn, the representative of the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces, Commander of the Naval Forces and Coastal Defense, conveyed the greetings and congratulations of Mr. President, Lieutenant General Bashar al-Assad, Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, to the friendly Russian Federation, its people, army and leadership, on the occasion of the anniversary of victory over Nazism, noting this historic day that was written and recorded by the heroics of the Soviet Armed Forces and by the will of the heroic Russian people who did not know submission or surrender in the face of invaders and aggressors.

The representative of the General Command added: “The Russian Federation, under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, today continues to adhere to the Russian principles and positions in support of the right of peoples to a free and dignified life. The Russian Federation continues to defend international peace and security,” The representative of the General Command thanked Russia for the efforts Moscow has been making for years and the sacrifices and heroism the Russian Federation has demonstrated during the ongoing cooperation with the Syrian Arab Army in the war against terrorism.

In a statement to reporters, the head of the Political Guidance Branch at the Naval Forces Command, Brigadier General Alaa Zaidan, noted the anniversary of Victory over Nazism, which was achieved thanks to the great heroism and sacrifices made by the Russian people and army in the Great Patriotic War, pointing out that the Russian and Syrian armies are today fighting one war facing one enemy but on two different fronts.

Brigadier General Zaidan stressed that thanks to the steadfastness and heroism of the Syrian and Russian armies and peoples and their successive victories, the new victory over global terrorism, neo-Nazism and their supporters will soon be celebrated.
