Central Bank of Syria and representatives of international organizations highlight cooperation to support Syrian citizens

In the meeting held today at the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) with representatives of international organizations operating in Syria, the participants stressed the importance of cooperation with the bank to enhance the programs and projects of these organizations, which aim at providing support and humanitarian assistance to Syrian citizens.

 

According to a statement by the Central Bank, SANA stated that Dr. Hazem Karfoul, Governor of the Bank, expressed during the meeting the CBS readiness to directly and continuously coordinate with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Activities in Syria and to strengthen communication channels with international organizations to overcome all obstacles regarding the relationship with the banking sector in the context of implementing programs and projects of support and humanitarian assistance.

The Governor underlined the necessity of stepping up the effectiveness of the programs and projects of international organizations due to their role in alleviating the burdens of living on citizens because of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

For his part, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs in Syria, Imran Raza, thanked the Central Bank’s initiative for the invitation to the meeting and for the proposed coordination mechanism, expressing the readiness of all international organizations to cooperate with the Central Bank for the success of programs and projects of support and humanitarian assistance in Syria.

During the meeting, the participants agreed to form a joint working team to communicate and coordinate periodically, evaluate and develop the relationship between international organizations and the banking sector, and propose the necessary solutions to overcome the obstacles that hinder the activities of these organizations in Syria, thus contributing to alleviating unjust coercive unilateral measures and increasing the development programs.
