Cathedral Sermons for Peace in Syria

 

 

 

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ A sermon  was held  on Tuesday evening   at St. George  Greek- Orthodox  Cathedral   in Bab Touma  by of the  choir  of  Afram  the Syriac Patriarchate included prayers and meditations  appealing  the  God Almighty  to have peace prevailed in Syria .

The  choir, led by Shadi Emil Sarweh and  the participation of f Rania Al-Shalhoub and Michael Sununu  performed pieces, songs and hymns reflecting  the spirit  of the “ Easter”, inspired  by Damascus “  the  city of happiness” , as stated in the Bible.

The evening held for this purpose was  attended by Patriarch Gregory III Laham, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East of the Greek Orthodox church ,  Bishop al-Souqi  of the  Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Damascus and Bishop Jean Qawaq ,  Director of the  Patriarchal Court.

The chorus (Mar Afram 1st  Ewas  the Syriac ) was founded by His Holiness the late Mar Ignatius Zakka Ist  Ewas, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East  and Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the World in 1980.
