Carrie Lam: Washington suppresses anti-racism demonstrations in U.S. but supports violent protests in Hong Kong
HONG KONG, (ST)- The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam has stressed that the US administration is applying a double standards policy, because it supports violent protests in Hong Kong and suppresses demonstrations in the United States.
“We have seen most clearly in recent weeks the double standards that are around,” Lam told AFP.
Violent protests rocked Hong Kong late last year during which protesters used dangerous tools to attack policemen. Washington has repeatedly expressed its support for these protests while it used the US National Guard and military forces to face anti-racism demonstrators in the United States.
“You know there are riots in the United States and we see how local governments reacted. And then in Hong Kong, when we had similar riots, we saw what position they adopted then,” Lam said.
