Carpets transformed into paintings

Damascus, (ST) – It is a mixture of  heritage and oil paintings that has been created by the plastic artist Mohamed El-Olabi in his exhibition, which reminds us of  the aesthetic heritage of carpets that has been the first decoration of the walls for many years.

The exhibition, entitled “Stories of Imagination”, was held in Zawaya Center Hall in Damascus where the artist used various ways to show different spaces in the carpets in beautiful ways.

The main topic of his idea and colours was modernity.

“The idea of the exhibition concentrates on oil colors on old carpets as a kind of new and rich material,” Al-Olabi told SANA.

He pointed out that the oil color carries a special spirituality, and that his experience in decoration and painting made him making balance between decoration and painting using symbols, such as bird, person, buildings, houses, oriental fantasy…etc .

According to him, the bird represents the soul.

Al-Olabi was afraid that the visitors of the exhibition would not accept   his idea, but this did not happen and he found that the people of the region would like to have carpets.
