Cardinal Mario Zenari: Providing urgent relief to earthquake-affected people in Syria a test for humanity

The Vatican’s Ambassador to Syria, Cardinal Mario Zenari, has appealed to the international community to provide urgent relief to earthquake-affected people in Syria, stressing that “this issue is a test for humanity.”

In an interview with the Vatican Radio, Zenari said that the sanctions imposed on Syria impede the delivery of humanitarian assistance, calling for resorting to “reason and humanitarian values” in this respect. He reiterated the need to provide urgent relief to the affected people away from political divisions, noting that this will be a test for humanity.

The cardinal noted the great efforts being exerted by the church in Syria in the field of providing humanitarian assistance.
