Captured Ukrainian officer: Our government failed us in Mariupol

Colonel in the captured Ukrainian army in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Vladimir Baranyuk, said that the Ukrainian government deceived its forces and did not fulfill their promises to help break the siege on the city of Mariupol.

Baranyuk, the commander of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian army, said in an interview recorded at his detention site inside the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Ukrainian government publicly reported the impossibility of rescuing the Ukrainian military in Mariupol.

Baranyuk pointed out that his forces, which were trapped in Mariupol, asked the government to conclude an agreement on its fate, but the Kiev regime deceived it and did not fulfill its promises of assistance and break the siege.

It is noteworthy that the Russian forces arrested Colonel Vladimir Baranyuk, along with soldiers and officers of the 36th Brigade’s most senior leaders, including its chief of staff, Colonel Dmitry Kormyankov, after they tried to leave the Azovmash factory, which is located northwest of the Azovstal factory, the last stronghold of the ultra-nationalist Azov battalion in Mariupol.

On the other hand, the captured Ukrainian colonel pointed out that the American Javelin anti-tank missiles are useless in urban combat.

It is noteworthy that in mid-April, the authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic announced that 1,350 Ukrainian soldiers, including more than 160 marines, the 36th Marine Brigade in Mariupol laid down their arms and surrendered to the republic’s forces.
