The presidential candidate for the opposition Syrian Democratic Front, Mahmoud Mari, voted in the presidential elections at Jawdat Al-Hashemi School in Damascus.
After casting his vote, Mari said in a press statement: “ I am a candidate for the internal and external national opposition, and my nomination is a breach for the first time in Syria with an opposition candidate heading to the polls and electing himself and expressing his opinion.”
Mari added: “ I say to all Syrians, go to the polling stations and choose the best program and choose the most qualified person to lead Syria.”
Mari said: “ We want Syria, a democratic, pluralistic, and deliberative state, not the election of sales and marches. We want pluralistic elections because the Syrian constitution needs to be modified and developed.”
Mari said: “ The elections serve a program that says that we want a participatory national unity government and a national conference for Syrian dialogue in order to exit the crisis and liberate our land from Israeli and American occupations.”
Mari added: “ The electoral process and all the advertisements and billboards that accompanied it, all of this passed smoothly without problems.”
Mari explained that whoever is arrested is someone who commits a crime for which the law will be held accountable.
Mari said: “ We do not want violence, we want social peace and cooperation between the authority and the national opposition in order to build Syria.”
Mari said that Syria needs to be rebuilt and to rebuild people, stone and it needs the concerted efforts of all its citizens, all Syrians, regardless of their political opinions.
Mari affirmed that he accepts the results of the vote and with the will and choice of the Syrian people, and whatever the result he will accept.
Mari explained that we must get used to the presence of the opposition in Syria, and it is a healthy condition.
Mari said : “We have begun to implement democracy. Democracy in Syria is nascent and modern, and for the first time an opposition candidate runs for elections, and this is what I adhere to, encourage and support, but we must develop and improve it until we get to the best.”
Mari pointed out that Germany, which is a long-standing country in democracy, as well as Turkey have prevented Syrian citizens from exercising their right to vote, and this prohibition is against democracy.
Mari said: “ We must let the Syrians in Germany, Turkey, Qamishli, Hasakah, Lebanon, Jordan and all countries of the world express their point of view in the ballot box and we accept all the results of the elections.”
