Canadian Prime Minister congratulates President Al-Sharaa on assuming Syria’s Presidency

President Ahmad Al-Sharaa received a phone call from the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau congratulated President Al-Sharaa on assuming the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic, and stressed Canada’s support for the Syrian people to achieve progress, stability and enhance security in Syria. He also stressed the need to work to lift economic sanctions on Syria, announcing that he would send a special envoy to Syria as part of providing assistance to the Syrian people.

In his turn, the President Al-Sharaa, welcomed the Canadian Prime Minister and thanked Canada for hosting Syrian refugees.

President Al-Sharaa also stressed the importance of strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries and enhancing cooperation in a way that contributes to achieving stability and security for the Syrian and Canadian peoples.
