Calls to Syria to Join SCO

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Head of the Syrian-Armenian Business Council Leon Zaki called Syria to speed up the pace to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), saying that the road is still open for Syria to join the organization, a step that gives Syria the opportunity to develop its economy with the countries comprising almost half the world’s population.

In a statement to local press, Mr.Zaki pointed out the need to take practical measures to join the SCO as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal states did.

Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Dmitry Mizintsev announced last June that the organization welcomes the request of Syria joining to be a member of the organization, pointing out that this study will be approved in accordance with the regulations of the organization.

Shanghai Organization for Cooperation consists of 14 countries including Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as India, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Mongolia as an observer, Belarus, Turkey and Sri Lanka as a partner member in the dialogues.
